Absolute Electron Impact Ionization Cross

Normalized values of cross sections for the production of ions by electron impact on N20 and NO have been obtained by utilizing the relative flow technique. The accurately known values of cross sections for the production of singly charged ions of rare gases from the parent atoms have been used for the normalization. Cross sections for the generation of fragment ions have been measured for the first time. By summing the cross sections for the direct ionization and dissociative ionization, total ionization cross sections have been obtained and compared with the previously available data. Energies for the appearance of various ions have also been measured and compared with predictions of the photoelectron spectroscopy and Hess’s law.
